Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority and Tuscaloosa United Soccer Club announce West End Soccer Strong (WESS). WESS is a new,   co-ed soccer league teaching soccer fundamentals and team play for youth ages 4-10, at the McDonald Hughes Community Center sports fields, located at 3101 MLK, Jr. Boulevard.

“We are excited to expand youth athletics in our community especially to our west Tuscaloosa community and soccer is our next non-traditional sport that will expose our children to a global sport and give an avenue to future opportunities in local sports,” said Jay Logan, Director of Community Outreach and Youth Athletics.

Head Coach Barry Spitzer, Executive Director of TUSC says he is “excited about the growth of the game and to increase player opportunity and participation in the West End Soccer Strong league.”

“Soccer is one of the most popular team sports of all PARA youth programs and worldwide. The WESS league offers young and new players ages 4-10 years old an opportunity to learn the game and grow with the sport,” said Spitzer.

According to officials, soccer isn’t just about physical skill, it teaches skills such as teamwork and decision making and can be a confidence builder, benefits that players can take with them into the classroom and throughout life.
